E3 designed the adaptive reuse of a 40-year old elementary school building into administrative offices for the West Contra Costa Unified School District. The school included three separate buildings on a 7.75 acre site. The three buildings will house separate programmatic functions for the District and Facilities guroup.
At approximately 6,000 SF, Building A will provide a 20-person conference room and 150-person flex space for District Board meetings and publicly held community meetings. It will also house a new Main Distribution Frame (MDF) for the computer servers, hubs and routers supporting the IT infrastructure. Building B converts six classrooms into a collaborative work space with file cabinets and “hotel” work stations, 24 open plan work stations, 5 private offices, and two 12-person conference rooms. The 9,000 SF renovation includes a new break room, copy room, and Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) connecting the MDF with the new work stations. Building C modifies 9,000 SF of classroom space into 9 senior management offices, 12 large work stations, a 16-person conference room and collaborative work spaces.
As the Prime Architect, AE3 managed the contracts and directed the work of civil, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers and coordinated work with the District’s security, technology, waterproofing and door hardware consultants. Scope of work included selective demolition, hazardous materials abatement, fire damage restoration, parking and site accessibility improvements, landscape design, site utility replacement, modernization of HVAC and plumbing systems, restroom upgrades, new IT infrastructure and roof replacement.
