Lincoln Child Center is a community-based nonprofit organization. AE3 renovated and transformed their existing warehouse/office building into a light-filled and updated community center to serve young children from low-income families. The project included a dining room, commercial kitchen, classrooms, offices, gym, library, and computer training center that surround an open recreation area. There are also a large number of counseling rooms for individuals and groups that are strategically segregated from the more public spaces to offer privacy.
The majority of the building shell and structure was in good condition, however, some interior finishes had deteriorated, and some were believed to contain hazardous material. The renovation involved the complete removal of all interior walls and finishes, with the exception of a few existing utility rooms and restroom spaces.
