Los Angeles Community College District, West Los Angeles College Plant Facilities + Shops Replacement
AE3 is completing full design service for a ground-up replacement building for the Facilities, Maintenance and Operations (FMO) group at the West Los Angeles Campus. This 17,000 SF, $18 million building replaces a 1950’s uncertified structure that accommodates the campus facilities shops (carpentry, paint, HVAC/MEP, locks) as well as their offices, training, fleet maintenance and warehouse facilities.
The project will comprise of a long linear high-bay pre-engineered structure that will front directly out into the service yard, allowing shops ready access. A cantilevered overhang will provide additional sheltered flex and staging area directly outside the shops. The building will be fronted by a stick built administrative office, training and break area as well as a plan-room. The façade will be attractively clad with a metal panel system as it faces toward the center of the campus. The new structure will be built behind the existing facility which will be subsequently demolished. The project will be targeting LEED Gold.
